The Wiley Fosters, at Local 506
(Jul 25, 2011)
This was a work in progress, in editing, pruning, & paring that I have not finished. The work I do for my primary hobby was finished a day or so after the show. I had a blast!, and loved many of the photos!

But to give photos to a group is a completely additional project for me, and takes far longer than I normally can take. [My asking a band to just run a digital or even tape recorder during a session and then present it as a finished cd is the parallel. You KNOW how long the process is for just getting a master for a cd. Same here.] And as much as I'd love to spend another many hours to edit further and post a finished product for others who have asked for a few photos, I don't have that time. I spend every spare minute I have IN shows themselves! Here in Chapel Hill, EVERY night of the week as a rule has multiple options; it isn’t just a “one show a week, or MONTH” here.

So, again, this is a work in progress that I may or may not pare down or edit. I hope you enjoy it!

IMPORTANT: all photos are copyrighted, of course. You can repost to facebook or to reverbnation only, and only if the copyright is included before the photo is republished "live". Let me know if you'd like to request any other use of them. Again, I hope you enjoy them. And go see The Wiley Fosters!

New Town Drunks, playing the 10th Anniversary of Orange County Social Club

New Town Drunks is among the groups playing a free benefit show honoring the 10th Anniversary of Orange County Social Club. OCSC is raising funds this week for a small business training scholarship owner Tricia Mesigian has put together with the Town of Carrboro, NC.

The Humboldt Current, 6/5/11 at Chapel Hill's NIGHTLIGHT
(Jun 5, 2011)
Sara Morris is, well, The Humboldt Current. Her shows are rare, about like cicadas and beautiful blooms on a century plant. On Sunday, June 5, 2011, she played her first show in over 3 years. (Last one was 2/9/08.) It was worth the wait, and had me wanting to beg for more shows this year. Accompanying her were Laurie Desch on guitar and mandolin, Katie Spencer on accordion and glockenspiel, and Perry Wright on keys and maybe a synthesizer. Venue was Nightlight on W. Rosemary St, Chapel Hill NC (http://www.nightlightclub.com/)

FYI, Laurie plays under her own name; Katie is from the former Chapel Hill group, "Sweater Weather"; and Perry Wright is the heart and soul of "The Prayers and Tears of Arthur Digby Sellars". For fans of Perry's gorgeous, provocative music, he will be playing again, resurrecting his "Prayers and Tears..." group this September 2011 for Raleigh's Hopscotch Music Festival, along with the likes of The Flaming Lips, Guided By Voices, Drive-by Truckers, more national grabbers, and many local groups. -Not bad company.

Sara keeps a low profile, but there is music she has kept at http://www.myspace.com/thehumboldtcurrent , though until I left her a note, the last date she had visited her page had been 2008.

IMPT: please see other album description paragraphs about copyrights, use of photos, etc. Email me at betsyharris@hotmail.com with inquiries. Thanks, and enjoy!

Skylar Gudasz's recording party
(Jan 30, 2011)
Skylar Gudusz and The Ugly Girls is laying down a cd, and thrilled many of her friends by inviting us all to help record one of the beautiful songs last January. We crowded one of the rooms at Arbor Ridge Studios (http://www.arborridgestudios.com/) learned our parts, rehearsed, recorded, and had a great time being part of Skylar's timeless pieces. Visit her page at http://skylargudaszandtheuglygirls.com/ , and pick up one of her cd's. She's "good people", and a talented musician, songwriter, and composer.

As with all photos here, explicitly stated or not, the same boilerplate:
1. I recommend slideshow view (choose "view album" and then select slideshow. Can set time interval on right).
2. All images are copyrighted and all rights reserved. Mount Moriah, 12/08/10
(Dec 8, 2010)
Mount Moriah in it's core form is Heather McEntire and Jenks Miller. This show at Chapel Hill's Local 506 music club included a few musician friends who sometimes (or often) accompany her. Check http://www.mountmoriahband.com/ and take a look at some of their excellent videos. ("Old Gowns" is my favorite, both musically and visually.) Better still, cue up that video, http://vimeo.com/15035076 , and play the audio in the background as you view the photos in slideshow mode. For this, the standard interval is the fastest you will want to view, and you may even want to slow it down a bit. It's gorgeous, I promise.

[Please see other albums for boilerplate information about copyrights and other rights.]

BIG NOTE about all my photos: I'm always having to transfer files for maxed-out computer space. It's usually difficult because I have a couple of hundred of folders -among thousands- that have partially-edited shows. This was one that, like many, had hours logged and only a few hours to go. I've been so moved by Mount Moriah's music lately that I wanted to spend another few hours today to post at least Heather's part of this December 2010 show. Like much of the work I post (sometimes on facebook, but normally just on Fotki), it is redundant in several places. Most of these photos are straight out of the camera, and I'd have liked to clean them up a bit. But rather than lose the public view of this altogether, I'm posting as is.

I hope you enjoy these and all photographers' photos. It, for me, is truly a privilege to witness our performing arts firsthand, and a joy and honor to celebrate our artists in this way.
